Aberdeen Incinerator - East Tullos, Aberdeen - December 2025

Whilst it's the holiday period and with the news that this facility is in its second unplanned shutdown of 2025 I thought it was perfect timing to get some aerial pictures of this new facility that dominates the Aberdeen skyline.

Opening in April 2024 the facility is a £150 million energy from waste incinerator which should be burning 150,000 tonnes per year of non-recyclable waste which would normally be going to landfill by Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Councils.

Around June this year the facility shutdown with the first operator stating that it was reviewing its involvement due to "Ongoing Issues" with waste being directed to Landfill.

Waste processing restarted in August however In recent news it was stated that the facility was shutdown again with the councils stating that its contract with the second operator being "Terminated since the 8th December".

Again waste being diverted to other locations, mainly a landfill site near Peterhead but they are hopeful of a solution to get the facility fired up and processing at full capacity.
