Mormond Hill Stag, Mormond Hill - 21st March 2026
The Mormond Hill Stag which sits on the southeastern side of the hill was created in 1870 to mark the marriage of a local laird William F. Cordiner of Cortes.
It measures 67m by 73m and is made from local quartz stone. Throughout its history it has been fighting nature to remain seen with the most latest cleaning taking place over a few
years In 2023 by volunteers.
Mormond Hill due to its location and height was also used by US North Atlantic Radio System (NARS) and the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line to warn of enemy bombers and
missiles.
In modern times its been used to provide Internet, TV and mobile phone signals around the area.
