Kinnaird Head Lighthouses - Fraserburgh - January 2026

Site of the very first lighthouse on mainland Scotland, Kinnaird Head has a number of historic and functional lighthouses plus is the location of the Scotland Lighthouse Museum.

The original lighthouse built in 1787 is part of the museum which takes you through the building construction, equipment, navigation and personal effects that belonged to former lighthouse keepers.

This lighthouse was deactivated in 1991 where it was replaced by a modern built fibreglass structure that's fully automatically controlled in the same year and is the main navigational light.
Also on site is the deactivated fog horn, locally known as the "Castle Coo". This air powered horn was built in 1902 and emitted a blast for 7 seconds ever 90 seconds on a cycle.
